Kriti Kharbanda Wore 'Naani Maa Ka Haar' For 'Mayian', Reveals People Forced Her To Ditch Red Chooda

Kriti Kharbanda tied the knot with Pulkit Samrat in their hometown in an extremely private yet grand wedding ceremony. The couple kept glimpses of their wedding celebrations away from the media glare. Recently, Kriti shared the first photo from her Maiyan ceremony, and her look is an inspiration for all the brides-to-be. For those who don’t know, Maiyan is a Punjabi ceremony hosted at the bride and groom’s parents’ home on the morning of their wedding. It is also known as Maiyun, or haldi ritual.

From a young age, a girl loves exploring her mother’s wardrobe and dreams of wearing her pretty outfits when they grow up, and Kriti Kharbanda is no different. The gorgeous actress wore her Naani gold neckpiece and her mother’s dupatta during her chooda ceremonies. For the Maiyan, Kriti wore a monotone neon green saree, which was teamed with an off-shoulder blouse.

The bride styled it with a dainty gold neckpiece with three layers, featuring Patty design and matching earrings. Kriti kept her look subtle with soft makeup, a bindi and hair tied into a ponytail. Talking about the ceremony, Kriti revealed that she always wanted to wear her nani maa ka haar during her wedding festivals, even before she found the love of her life. She called it’bachpan ka sapna‘ and wrote:

“Naani ma ka haar aur ma ki shaadi ka dupatta! The two things I was sure I was going to adorn during my Chooda ceremony even before there was a boyfriend or a proposal bachpan ka Sapna tha.”


While Kriti wore a pink lehenga for her wedding day, she stuck to laal chooda and kaleeras, as a Punjabi bride. However, the actress revealed people tried to force her to ditch her red chooda. The actress talked about how people did their best to convince her, but she stayed true to the tradition. Kriti wrote:

“Laal chooda and traditional kaleera’s were a non negotiable too. The number of people who tried to convince me otherwise was insane. But I’m so glad I was stuck on what I wanted to do and didn’t look back.”

On March 19, 2024, Kriti took to her Instagram stories and posted glimpses of her pehli rasoi or chauka chadna rasam. For those who don’t know, in Punjabis, after marriage, the bride has to cook something sweet for her in-laws, and this rasam iscalled Chauka Chadna or Pehli Rasoi. In the pictures, Kriti was decked up in a gorgeous red suit with tassel detailing. In the first picture, she shared a glimpse of her perfectly cooked halwa, garnished with nuts. Atop it, she had written:

“Meri pehli rasoi.”

In the next photo, Kriti was posing with Pulkit’s grandmother, who looked super happy after eating the mouth-watering halwa. Atop the picture, Kriti wrote, “Approved by dadi.” In the next picture, she was seen garnishing the nuts on the halwaand she looked totally engrossed in cooking the yummiest delicacy for her family.
