A wedding that began with an accidental Facebook wave and ended with a spontaneous proposal in Croatia became a celebration blending Italian flair and Australian bushland at Farm Vigano in South Morang. Sienna and Angus crafted an event that rejected tradition in favour of personal touches, good food, and a relaxed vibe.

Their romance started years earlier when Angus sent Sienna a wave sticker on Facebook—a feature since removed—and the two spent the night messaging before meeting face-to-face. Their first kiss took place at Rats, Melbourne’s now-closed budget nightclub, set to Drake’s “God’s Plan”, followed by stargazing on a balcony. What followed was a relationship that led to their unexpected engagement.

The proposal unfolded during a trip to Croatia, where Angus intended to film a sunset timelapse but instead surprised Sienna on a rooftop in Cavtat. The only sound on the video was the hotel next door playing The Macarena. The ring had been hidden in his luggage the entire trip, despite his earlier insistence they couldn’t marry far from family.

A Wedding Without the Usual Rules

Planning the wedding involved rejecting many traditional elements, no garter toss, no formal parent dances, no favours. Instead, they focused on what mattered most: authentic Italian dishes, bold colours, and an informal atmosphere. After visiting eight venues, they chose Farm Vigano for its Tuscan-inspired gardens combined with Australian bushland. The property provided ceremony space, reception area, photo locations, and an indoor backup, all in one location.

The wedding took place on a Sunday in early March, a deliberate choice to align with a long weekend and minimise work conflicts. The day featured Italian-inspired cuisine, sunshine, and, most importantly, limoncello spritz. Sienna wore a Stella York organza gown with a dramatic skirt, while Angus chose a custom light-coloured linen suit designed with input from both of them.

Their bridal party was unbalanced, with five bridesmaids, including Sienna’s sister, and just three groomsmen: Angus’s two brothers and Sienna’s brother. They skipped a traditional sweetheart table, instead using the venue’s king tables to encourage mingling. Speeches were limited to three minutes each, though Angus’s father’s opened the night with jokes about their shared love of libraries, stretching to 15 minutes.

Personal heirlooms played a key role. Sienna incorporated fabric from her mother’s, grandmother’s, and mother-in-law’s wedding dresses into her gown. The couple added DIY elements like handmade invitations and custom place cards, though they hired a faux floral vendor to control costs while maintaining a lively aesthetic.

Music, Memories, and Handcrafted Touches

Music shaped the day’s emotional moments. Sienna walked down the aisle to Taylor Swift’s “You Are in Love”, performed live by Paper Hearts in an acoustic arrangement. The recessional featured “Love Story”, while their first dance was to a niche EDM remix unknown to guests. The couple choreographed the routine themselves, rehearsing with friends beforehand.

The venue’s coordinator, Suzie, managed vendor coordination and last-minute adjustments, ensuring smooth transitions. Royal Media documented the event with photos blending elegance and candid moments, while a non-linear video told their story. The celebrant, Ryan, served as both MC and DJ, streamlining the day’s flow.

Food highlighted the celebration, with Angus’s mother baking the cake and a bridesmaid decorating it. The menu included pizza, pasta, and gelato, avoiding pretentiousness for crowd-pleasing options. The weather delivered perfect 25-degree sunshine, though early March carried risks of extreme heat or bushfire smoke.

The couple’s planning prioritised essentials, venue, food, and atmosphere, over unnecessary extras like photo booths. Angus, a spreadsheet enthusiast, led organisation, ensuring alignment with their vision. The result was a wedding uniquely theirs, from the first Facebook wave to the final limoncello spritz.
