The latest sensation sweeping the K-drama scene,’Queen of Tears‘, swiftly achieved a remarkable 14 percent viewership rating (Nielsen Korea) within just six episodes. This feat is attributed to the gripping narrative of a married couple in crisis, portrayed by heartthrobs Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-wonas they navigate the tumultuous waters of impending divorce.
In the drama, Kim Soo-hyun embodies the character of a farmer’s son from Yongdu-ri, while Kim Ji-won portrays a third-generation chaebol heiress. Their unconventional love story, marked by fiery clashes and simmering tension, stands in contrast to their fairy tale wedding three years earlier, which captivated the nation.
Their on-screen nuptials, dubbed the ‘wedding of the century’, was reportedly filmed at the Aston House in Grand Walkerhill Hotel, Gwangjang-dong, Seoul. This venue, known for hosting illustrious figures from politics, business, and entertainment, boasts a sprawling outdoor space spanning 1421m², ensuring an aura of grandeur.
Interestingly, the setting of their fictional wedding holds a striking resemblance to the real-life wedding venue of celebrated actors Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jinthe popular ‘couple of the century’, who exchanged vows at the same location in March 2022. The extravagant affair, decorated with lavish floral arrangements and opulent decor, dazzled fans both locally and internationally, sparking widespread fascination and discussions about its estimated cost exceeding 100 million won.
The parallels between the fictional wedding in ‘Queen of Tears’ and the real-life union of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin have not gone unnoticed by viewers. As Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won exchanged wedding rings beneath a floral-adorned arch-shaped sculpture, similar to the Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin’s wedding photos, speculations arose about the inspiration behind the drama’s storyline.
