AVON, CT — The Avon Historical Society has won $5,000 from the Americana Corner Preserving America Grant Program to fund a museum-quality mannequin and display case to house the oldest textile in its collection. A late 18th century, handmade silk dress worn in a wedding in 1794 in Northington (colonial eraname for Avon) is the oldest textile in the collection of the Avon Historical Society. A woman has been charged with running an alleged wedding dress business scam on dozens of unsuspecting brides in Queensland. The six-month police operation was launched after a Cairns woman allegedly gave her custom wedding dress to a bridal company in September 2022 for dry-cleaning, before spotting on social media that it had been sold to another person.
